Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd menerapkan konsep penafsirannya terhadap teks Al-Qur'an melalui kebebasan berpikir, dan ia mengikuti pendapat ajaran Mutazila yang mengatakan bahwa Al-Qur'an adalah makhluk. Dalam bukunya “Mafhum al-Nash”, terdapat pemikiran yang simpang siur, bahkan ia mengatakan bahwa Al-Qur’an merupakan produk suatu kebudayaan, hingga sebagian intelektual Islam mengklaim dirinya sebagai orang yang murtad. Dan pemikirannya lebih banyak dipengaruhi oleh orang Barat. Bahwa cara penafsiran Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd terhadap teks Quan sangat membingungkan, dan beliau juga mengatakan bahwa penafsiran teks Alquran sama dengan penafsiran Bibel. Dan Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd juga merujuk pada kaum orientalis yang melakukan revisi untuk memahami tentang Al-Qur'an sebagai kalam Allah. Dan dia bisa menempatkan Nabi Muhammad sebagai penulis Al-Quran. Itu sebabnya umat Islam dan penafsir tidak hanya diminta memahami Al-Quran secara kontekstual.

Abstract
Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd applies his concept of interpretation to holy Quran's text through the freedom of thinking, and he follows the opinion of Mutazila's teaching, which says that holy Quran (al- Qur'an) is the creature. In his book "Mafhum al-Nash", there are confusing in thinking, even he says that the Quran is one culture's product, until some of the Islamic intellectuals claim him as an apostate man. And his thinking is more influenced by Westerners. That the interpretation method of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd to the text of the Quan is very confusing, and he also says that the Quranic text's interpretation is the same that is to the Bibel. And Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd also refers to the Orientalists who do the revision to understand about the Quran as word of Allah. And he can place prophet Muhammad as the writer of the Quran. That's why Moslems and the interpreter are not only asked for understanding the Quran contextually.
