FRAMING ANALYSIS TOWARDS NEWS SCRIPT OF THE BURNING OF TOLIKARA MOSQUE IN ONLINE MEDIA DETIK.COM AND REPUBLIKA.CO.ID
The role of media is crucial in shaping public issues. People consume news presented by the media and form personal opinions throught them. The Mosque burning incident in Tolikara could be interpreted into various views if the media presented the information with apart view and interest.
The purpose of this study is to discover whether the framing script passage structure (what, who, when, where, why, how) in the burning of Tolikara Mosque’s news release in detik.com and republika.co.id online media is found, and how the both medias present the release.
The main theory of this study is the social-reality construction theory proposed by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, and is linked with the model framing theory by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki.
The research methodologies of this study are: constructionist paradigm, qualitative approach, explanatory study, and the data analysis uses model framing by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki.
Research shows there are two major issues raised Tolikara media about the incident. (1) In terms of framing the discourse structure there are differences in the displayed text Detik and Republika. Detik further highlight pluralism and tolerance while Republika look further highlight the Islamic side. (2) There are three issues in this study. First, the chronology of burning mosques. Detik hide Christians as actors while Republika convey emphatically. Secondly, the role of the Indonesian Government in this case. Detik.com said the government has gone to great lengths while Republika questioned government presence. Third, the alleged GIDI as brain attack. Detik denied while Republika GIDI testimony proving guilt.
