Pemakaian bahasa Inggris dalam interaksi verbal pada pembelajaran Matematika di SMP Bilingual : suatu penelitian etnografi di kelas VII SMP Mawar Saron Tangerang
ABSTRACT
The objective of this research is to obtain the information of the use of English in verbal interaction in mathematics learning process at Mawar Saron junior High School Tangerang.
The research is focused in the use of English in mathematics learning process, with subfocus, consist of the use of English in giving the goal of studying on mathematics, the usage of english in giving materials of mathematics, the use of english in syllabus, the use of english in evaluating on mathematics, and the teacher’s and student’s difficulties in using english on mathematics.
The method used in this reasearch is qualitative research, applying the ethnographic method introduced by Spradley. The data Collection is through observation, interview, and document. and the collected data is analyzed based on Spradley’s qualitative data analysis model, involves; analysis domain; taxonomic analysis; compenential analysis; and theme analysis. The validity of data is checked by the manner of lenghtening of participation, persevering of observation, triangulation, and discussing with colleagues
Base on the result of research, there are some difficulties found by the teachers and students of the use of English on mathematics learning process namely: (1) they do not have the good competence in English, (2) the school does not have standard for the teacher in using English on mathematics (3) it is difficult to manage the class. This difficulties are solved by workshop for teachers, teachers traning, seminar, courses, in house training, cooperation of teachers in learning teaching process and following MGMP.
