Subtitling Strategies in The Great Gatsby

Dalam penelitian ini, penulis bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi-strategi penerjemahan subtitle milik Gottlieb yang terdapat pada film The Great Gatsby. Dengan mengeksplorasi strategi penerjemahan untuk subtitle yang digunakan tersebut, penulis berfokus untuk menemukan strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan paling dan kurang dominan pada subtitle film The Great Gatsby. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif analisis dimana data yang diambil berasal dari naskah film The Great Gatsby. Setelah menganalisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa seluruh strategi penerjemahan milik Gottlieb dapat digunakan pada subtitle film The Great Gatsby dan transfer memiliki frekuensi tertinggi dan persentase antara kategori lain yang mencapai 63,7%. Diikuti oleh parafrase yang mencapai 14,07%, penghapusan yang mencapai 11,2%, dan kondensasi yang mencapai 5,34%, dan kategori terendah adalah dislokasi dan penipisan dengan persentase 0,2%.

In this study, the writer intends to describe Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies that are employed in The Great Gatsby subtitling. By exploring the application of all of the strategies used in the subtitling of The Great Gatsby, the writer focuses this study on finding strategies that are dominantly used and the least of all in the subtitling of The Great Gatsby movie. This study uses descriptive analysis study in which the data are taken from The Great Gatsby movie script. After analyzing the data, it is found that all of Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies employed in the subtitling. Also, it can be concluded that transfer has the highest frequency and percentage among others category which reaches 63,7% as the dominantly used one. It is followed by paraphrase which reaches 14,07%, deletion which reaches 11,2%, and condensation which reaches 5,34%, and the least dominant categories are dislocation and decimation, both with the percentage only 0,2%.
