Keterlibatan guru laki-laki dalam pendidikan anak usia dini : studi kasus di RA Mumtaza Pisangan Ciputat Timur Tangerang Selatan tahun 2017
Pekerjaan mengajar di jenjang pendidikan anak usia dini lebih didominasi perempuan dibanding laki-laki. Hal ini menyebabkan terbentuknya asumsi bahwa mengajar di PAUD (baik RA/TK/BA) adalah wilayah kaum perempuan, sehingga keberadaan guru laki-laki menjadi sesuatu yang asing dan tidak biasa. Asumsi tersebut didukung data yang menunjukkan bahwa di berbagai negara, termasuk Indonesia, prosentase guru PAUD perempuan jauh lebih besar dibanding guru lakilaki. Penelitian ini menggali tentang keterlibatan guru laki-laki dalam setting pendidikan anak usai dini. Secara spesifik, penelitian ini mendeskripsikan peran yang dimainkan guru laki-laki dalam seting PAUD, motivasi memilih guru laki-laki mengajar di jenjang PAUD, persepsi guru laki-laki tentang pekerjaan guru PAUD, strategi guru laki-laki dalam pembelajaran yang menekankan stimulasi, tantangan yang dihadapi guru lakilaki dalam menjalani pekerjaan mengajar di PAUD, serta dampak minimnya kehadiran guru laki-laki bagi perkembangan siswa. Penelitian menerapkan penedekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Peneliti melakukan analisa dokumen, observasi di RA Mumtaza, serta wawancara dengan guru laki-laki RA Mumtaza. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa keterlibatan guru laki-laki sangat diperlukan dalam konteks menciptakan suasana belajar yang mengajarkan kesetaraan gender, memberikan pemahaman tentang pentingnya keragaman gender bagi peserta didik, serta meningkatnya peran kaum laki-laki di lingkup pendidikan anak usia dini pada aspek paedagogik. It seems that early childhood education has attracted more female candidates to involve in. As a consequence, the workforce in early childhood education is regarded to be female industry or women‟s work. The statistical data in some countries dealing this issue have clearly shown that the percentage of males relatively fewer than that of female ones. This research investigated the involvement of male educators in earlychildhood settings. More specifically it aimed at describing the roled played by male educators in the childcare center, motivations of people choosing teaching as profession, male educators‟ perception about teaching at early childhood centre, strategy they initiated in the stimulated learning environment, challenges faced by male educators in doing their job, and impact resulted from inexsistence of male educators in early childhood settings. Using qualitative case study, research found that there are five reasons: financial reasons, influence of family and environment, interest of interacting with children, live philosophy and principle, and coping with new challenges. Since the findings have similarities and differences with previous studies, the context may be different one to another. The findings indicated that male educators played an important role in context of early childhood settings for some reasons such as creating a gender balance learning environment, promoting diversity among young children, and expanding the role of males in early childhood into paedagogical aspect.
