Media watch di era reformasi (1999-2014) mengontrol isi media massa di Indonesia
Pers memiliki peranan yang besar dalam perjalanan dan perkembangan berbangsa dan bernegara di Indonesia. Lalu, Pers juga merupakan pilar ke-4 demokrasi yang salah satu fungsinya yaitu mengontrol lembaga-lembaga lain seperti Eksekutif, Legislatif, Yudikatif dan lembaga pemerintah lainnya untuk kepentingan masyarakat. Sejarah pers Indonesia mencatat bahwa perkembangan pers di Indonesia dipengaruhi oleh sistem pemerintahan yang dijalankan pemegang kekuasaan. Pada masa Orde Baru di bawah kepemimpinan Soeharto, pemerintah menciptakan beberapa peraturan dan perundangan yang mengekang pers sedemikian rupa. Salah satunya ialah peraturan mengenai Surat Izin Usaha Penerbitan Pers. Pasca lengsernya Soeharto, Indonesia memasuki era Reformasi yang mengedepankan demokratisasi segala bidang termasuk pada pers. Pers di era Reformasi setelah lepas dari rezim Orde Baru yang mengekang pers, ternyata bagi beberapa kalangan kebebasan pers dirasakan sudah ‘kebablasan’. Kondisi kebebasan pers yang ‘kebablasan’, membuat para pemerhati pers mendirikan lembaga pemantau media atau sering disebut media watch. Media watch adalah lembaga atau organisasi non pemerintah yang mengawasi pemberitaan-pemberitaan yang dilakukan khalayak pers agar tidak keluar jalur dari fungsinya sebagai watchdog (kontrol sosial). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perkembangan pers di era Reformasi dan pengaruh media watch terhadap pers di Indonesia sejak tahun 1999 hingga tahun 2014. Fokus penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pengaruh media watch terhadap isi pemberitaan media massa di Indonesia. Kata Kunci : Pers, Media Watch, Media Massa, Reformasi, Demokrasi
Press has a great role in the journey and the development of nation and state in Indonesia. Also, Press is the fourth pillar of democracy which is one of its functions that is controlling other institutions such as Executive, Legislative, Judiciary and other government agencies for the benefit of society. The history of the Indonesian press noted that the development of the press in Indonesia is influenced by the system of government that is being held by the holder of power. During the New Order under Suharto's leadership, the government created several laws and regulations that curbed the press in such a way. One of the regulations is the Press Publishing Business License. After the fall of Soeharto, Indonesia entered the Reform Era which put forward the democratization of all fields including the press. press in the Reform era after released from the New Order regime that restricts the press, it turns out for some peoples that the freedom of the press is felt 'excessive'. The condition of 'excessive' press freedom, made the observers of the press established media monitoring institutions or often called media watch. Media watch is a non-governmental organization that oversees news coverage of the press so as not to get out of the way of its function as a watchdog (social control). This research aims to describe the development of the press in the Reform era and the influence of media watch on the press in Indonesia from 1999 to 2014.
