White LED can be fabricated by combining an blue LED chip with a yellow phosphor. In the manufacture of yellow phosphor, combustion process affects the crystalline formation process of phosphor. This is because the combustion process occurs activating the phosphor by the activator. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of combustion temperature on photoluminescence properties of phosphor. A yellow CaO:Ce3+, Na+ phosphor has been synthesized with varians of combustion temperature by solid state reaction. The material used is Calcium oxide (CaO) as material host, Cerium (IV) oxide (CeO2) as activator, and Natrium hydrogen carbonat (NaHCO3) as flux. The concentration of Ce3+ and Na+ is fixed by 0.007 mol. The raw material are mixed and then fired for 4 hours with varian temperature T = 1200, 1300, and 1400 oC. Then the phosphor is characterized by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), XRay Diffractometer (XRD), and Photoluminescence (PL). Based on the results of photoluminescence test, CaO:Ce3+, Na+ phosphor has a peak emission spectrum at 500 and 550 nm in the wavelenght range of 475-700 nm, and the greatest phosphor intensity occurs at combustion temperature of 1200 oC. The results showed that the combustion temperature had effect on the photoluminescence properties of CaO:Ce3+, Na+ phosphor.
