THE EFFECT OF INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH AND PRIOR KNOWLEDGE ON CHEMISTRY LEARNING RESULT OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this research is to find out the effect of learning approach and prior knowledge to chemistry learning result of senior high school students. It was conducted at SMAN 28 Kab. Tangerang, Banten.
This research used true experimental method with 2 x 2 treatment by level design. The sample was 44 selected sample randomly. The measurement of variables used written test in the form of multiple choice for chemistry ability. The techniques of data analysis in this study used the techniques of analysis of variance (ANAVA) two ways, the data was analyzed by testing followed by of Tuckey test.
The result of this research indicate that: (1) the student chemistry learning result from group of students who learn with multi representation learning approach is better than group of students with direct learning approach, (2) there is an interaction between learning approach and prior knowledge to chemistry learning result, (3) the group students with high prior knowledge has better achievement on chemistry with multi representation learning approach than group of students with direct learning approach, (4) the group students with low prior knowledge has better achievement on chemistry with direct learning approach than group of students with multi representation learning approach.
