The analysis of miscollocation in ed students' writing

Kolokasi adalah salah satu aspek penting dalam tulisan Bahasa Inggris. Penggunaan kolokasi yang tepat akan membuat siswa dapat mengekspresikan pikirannya dengan akurat dan dengan cara yang alami. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mencari tahu jenis dan frekuensi dari lexical miscollocation dalam tulisan siswa. 39 essay dikumpulkan dari kelas English for Academic Communication sebagai sumber data. Content analysis digunakan sebagai desain dari penelitian ini. Analisis dilakukan dengan bantuan COCA (The Corpus of Contemporary American English) dan TANGO. Dari hasil analisis ditemukan 38 lexical miscollocation yang terdiri dari 5 jenis leksikal kolokasi, L1 (Verb denoting creation + Noun), L2 (Verb denoting nullification + noun), L3 (Adjective + Noun), L5 (Noun + Noun) and L7 (Verb + Adverb).

Collocation is an important aspect of English writing. It will enable the students to express their thought precisely in a natural way. This study was conducted to find out kinds and frequency of lexical miscollocation found in students writing. 39 essays were collected from English for Academic Communication class as the data source. Content analysis was used as the research design for this study. The analysis was conducted with the help of COCA (The Corpus of Contemporary American English) and TANGO. From the analysis, the writer found a total of 38 lexical miscollocation consisting 5 types of lexical collocation, L1 (Verb denoting creation + Noun), L2 (Verb denoting nullification + noun), L3 (Adjective + Noun), L5 (Noun + Noun) and L7 (Verb + Adverb).
