ABSTRACT
Gender bias in language education highlights the unequal representation of men and women especially in textbook. This study was aimed at analyzing gender bias in EFL electronic textbook for Twelfth Grade of Senior High School. This study
used content analysis method to examine visibility rate of men and women in reading passages, dialogues and illustrations, gender dominance in dialogues, sexbased topic in reading passages and dialogues, sex-based activities, and sex-linked
jobs in reading passages, dialogues, and illustrations.
The results of the study showed that (1) women are less visible than men, (2) men are represented to dominate dialogues, (3)men become the main orientation in reading passages and dialogues, (4) women are portrayed with limited and passive activities, and (5) men are represented with numerous jobs which have higher
status. Thus, EFL electronic textbooks for Twelfth Grade of Senior High School still present unbalance and unfair portrayal of men and women.
The findings lead to the recommendation to ask the government involvement to reduce gender bias in any means in the education especially in the EFL textbooks. It is also recommended to the writers of the EFL textbooks not only insert a good academic content and also the global issues like gender equality.
