Persepsi adalah pengakuan dan opini dari pandangan individu tentang suatu objek berdasarkan pengalaman mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan persepsi mahasiswa baru tahun 2015 terhadap mata kuliah - mata kuliah yang mengandung keterampilan berbahasa dan silabus dari mata kulish English for Interpersonal Communication, English Grammar for Interpersonal and Social Communication, dan Diction in Discourse di jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris UNJ. Penelitian dilakukan dari Desember 2015 sampai Januari 2016 di Program Studi Pendidikan dan Sastra Inggris UNJ. Metode yang digunakan survei kwantitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa baru terhadap mata kuliah – mata kuliah keterampilan berbahasa dan silabus mata kuliah English for Interpersonal Communication, English Grammar for Interpersonal and Social Communication, dan Diction in Discourse dalam hal kesesuaian tujuan mata kuliah terhadap kebutuhan mahasiswa sebagaimana tahun pertaman pembelajaran mahasiswa baru, kesesuaian materi perkuliahan terhadap kebutuhan mahasiswa baru, kesesuaian aktivitas pembelajaran dengan gaya belajar mahasiswa baru, kesesuaian metode penilaian mata kuliah untuk menilai dan mengukur kemajuan dan hasil belajar mahasiswa sudah baik dan positif, dengan presentase masingmasing 97%, 98%, 94%, 70%, dan 78%. Masa peralihan dari jenjang SMA ke jenjang perkuliahan ternyata tidak bermasalah dalam hal materi perkuliahan. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukan bahsa mahasiswa baru membutuhkan pelatihan praktik untuk melatih keterampilan berbahasa mereka.

Perception is the recognition and opinion by individual view about the object based on how it seem and based on their’ experience. This study aims at describing freshmen perception toward the language skills subjects and the syllabus of English for Interpersonal Communication, English Grammar for Interpersonal and Social Communication, and Diction in Discourse course in ED UNJ. This study was carried out from December 2015 to January 2016 and randomly 37 respondents of 2015 freshmen from Educational Program Study and Literature Program Study in ED UNJ. The method used in this study was survey research with the use of quantitative approach. The data collection procedures were through questionnaire and interview. The finding show that freshmen perception toward language skills subjects and the syllabus of English for Interpersonal Communication course, English Grammar for Interpersonal and Social Communication course, and Diction in Discourse course in terms of the appropriateness of aims and objectives to freshmen need as in freshmen year, the appropriateness of teaching and learning activities to freshmen styles, and the appropriateness of assessment methods to assessed students’ learning progress and result were good and positive, with 97%, 98%, 94%, 70%, and 78% in succession. The transition from Senior High School to the College did not trouble them much in term of the course materials. Lastly, it was also shown that freshmen need more technical assessment to practice their language skills.
