ABSTRAK
The research aims at improving students’ ability in reading comprehension through Directed Reading Activity strategy. It is mixed metode with an action research. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, document study, interview and test. The study was conducted at MAN I Metro in the academic year of 2012/2013. The study was done from January to March 2013, and the respondents were 35 students in XI IPA class. It consists of two cycles. Each cycle consists of four phases were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The succeed standard in this research is 90% of the students get score more than 80. The results of the research find that the mean of the of the students’ ability in reading comprehension in the first cycle is 81.03, and the respondents get score more than 80 is 54%. The result of post test in cycle II is 94,3 % of the students get score more than 80, and the the mean of the of the students’ ability in reading comprehension is 88.77. The results show that the use of Directed Reading Activity strategy can improve the students’ ability in reading comprehension.
