Abstract
This research was aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension of English texts.It was conducted in one of the IX class at State Junior High School 43 Jakarta which consisted of 36 students. The researcher would hold an early observation and test in before implementing a reading method. The result of the early observation and test then had become base to plan, to implement, to observe, and to reflect the actions during cycle I and II. The test result achieved during each action and cycle would be compared with result of the early test to prove whether the method can improve the students’ reading comprehension skill or not.
The method that wuld be implemented is SQ3R method. The term SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. This reading method saves time because there are many students spends much time but still can not answer questions. The key word is reading done with a clear purpose through a systematical steps of SQ3R method.
The results of the research showed that there were increasing scores of the tests which measures reading comprehension.The early test result before implementing SQ3R method revealed that there were many students failed to fulfill the minimun score achievement standard. Nevertheless, after two cycles there were less students got score test below the minimun score achievement standard and the the average score tests were increased significantly.
Therefore, SQ3R reading method should be recommended as one of skills to improve reading comprehension of English texts.
