Plagiarism-avoiding strategies in english departement students' skripsi of Universitas Negeri Jakarta

This research aim to analyse the plagiarism-avoiding strategies and investigate errors in implementing the strategies in the English Department students skripsi. In conducting the research, the writer employed modified APA concept from Scaffer (2015) and Onwuegbuzie, Frels, & Slate (2010) with the method is content analysis. The result of the 40 skripsi in the last four years found that the most employed strategy is indirect quotation (paraphrase) with the highest result from Author as a part of narrative and followed by parenthetical citation. While, the less significant result is direct quotation (word-forword) from both Direct quotation with narrative style and Direct quotation using parenthetical citation for the least employed srategy. In implementing strategy, the dominant error encountered is not in reference list. While the others errors are omitted page, inconsistency between citation and reference list, omitted year, and quotation mark citation more than 40 words. However, The errors in implementing strategy can be considered as plagiarism attempts both accidental and intetntional.
