Learning autonomy is the readiness to take responsibility for the process for one’s
own learning. This study was conducted to investigate students’ learning autonomy
that emerges through preparation and participation in year ten of SMA Labschool
students in English drama activities and how learning autonomy was performed by
the students. This study used a case study method since the researcher gathered
data from the learning activities during English drama project and 7 selected
students’ opinions about the activities. The data were collected through classroom
observation and semi-structured interviews. This research showed that the English
drama activities not only advanced the students’ L2 proficiency and creativity, but
also had contributions in promoting students’ learning autonomy since it has
emerged in each phase of activity.
