Kesalahan phrasal verb dalam esai berbahasa Inggris : penelitian analisis isi pada mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Jakarta

ABSTRACT
The objectives of the research were to find out and analyze the phrasal verb errors in the English Essays by the students’ of English Literature Program, State University of Jakarta.This research was conducted using qualitative method with content analysis. The data source of this research were the students of fifth semester of English Literature Program, Faculty Language and Arts State University of Jakarta in the academic year 2012/2013. The data were 33 essays written by the students. Those essays were thoroghly read to identify the phrasal verb errors. Then, those errors were analyzed, classified, and diagnosed to find out the causes and effects errors. The result of this research showed that there were 65 errors. There were three categories of errors, they were the kind of phrasal verbs errors, the meaning of phrasal verb errors, and the surface strategy taxonomy errors.Based on the findings of the research, it can be concluded that (1) from the kind of phrasal verbs errors; the highest rate of error was seperable phrasal verb,(2) from the meaning of phrasal verb errors the highest rate of error was semi idiomatic, and (3) from the phrasal verb errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy; the highest rate of errors were misformation. Those errors are caused by habitual factors, intralingual factors and communication-strategy factors. It would be better if the sixth or seventh semester students are continuously trained to write scientific writing, including the proposal of thesis in English to get qualified graduates.
