ABSTRACT
Dian Kartika Hardiyanti, The Parenting Model on the Mental Retardation Children. Thesis : The Social Science Education Program, Social Science Education Major, Social Science Faculty, State University of Jakarta, May, 2016.
The purpose of this research is to obtain the information of the parenting model which the parents do to the mental retardation children which go through a period of school at Budi Daya Kasih, a school for children with special needs, on Cijantung, East Jakarta. This parenting model has a correlation with the abstract which come from internal and external which work on the parenting model from parents on the mental retardation children.
To achieve the purpose, the writer apply the qualitative method : which makes the researcher as instrument data collector to collect the data in a way of observing, interviewing, analyzing the documents, and doing the library research. In the next step, the data collected will be checked on the validity by the technic of perseverance observation, triangulation, adequacy referential, an auditing with the lecturer supervisor. The analyzis of the data is done by applying the model of Miles and Huberman, which consist of the data reduction, data presentation, verification and conclusion.
The result of the research shows that there are obstacles which come within the internal and external of the parents, such as the parents model on mental retardation children environment. The internal obstacles are parents emotional feeling to deal with the children : involving the parents behavior and the children, the difficulty communication from parents to children, and parents fash negative talks towards the children from their environment, such as the neighbor, which were done by some people who live near the mental retardation children and the parents. The parenting model from the parents to children is permissive parenting, authoritarian parenting, and democration parenting. Which is applied for some conditions, mostly the parents use the authoritarian parenting model, because the parents are not able to control the emotional feeling and anger in the parenting on the mental retardation children.
