The construction of liverpool identity in jurgen klopp post-match conferences

Identity in football plays important role in increasing the amount of fans and preserving their loyalty. This research aims to analyze the construction of Liverpool Identity in Jürgen Klopp post-match conferences. It uses Systemic Functional Linguistics from Halliday to explore textual function of post-match conferences and theory of identity from Woodward to analyze identity construction in post-match conferences. To analyze the identity construction, this research uses descriptive qualitative method as the research design. It is found that Liverpool identity is constructed by Jürgen Klopp in post-match conferences by explaining football strategy called Heavy Metal Football which contains similarities and differences in term of football strategy with glorious era of Liverpool. Heavy Metal Football as grand strategy becomes differentiation marker among other teams and an indicator in developing players’ quality.

Identitas dalam sepakbola berperan penting dalam menambahkan jumlah fans dan mempertahankan loyalitasnya. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konstruksi identitas Liverpool oleh Jürgen Klopp pada konferensi pers pasca-pertandingan. Studi ini menggunakan teori Systemic Functional Linguistics oleh Halliday untuk menelusuri fungsi tekstual dari konferensi pasca-pertandingan dan teori identitas oleh Woodward untuk menganalisis konstruksi identitas yang ada pada konferensi pers pasca-pertandingan. Untuk menganalisis konstruksi identitas, penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif sebagai desain penelitian. Studi ini menemukan bahwa konstruksi identitas Liverpool oleh Jürgen Klopp pada konferensi pasca-pertandingan dilakukan dengan cara menjelaskan strategi sepakbola yang disebut sebagai Heavy Metal Football yang memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan dalam hal strategi bermain dengan Liverpool pada masa kejayaannya. Heavy Metal Football sebagai strategi utama Jürgen Klopp juga menjadi faktor pembeda dengan klub lain serta menjadi tolak ukur dalam pengembangan kualitas pemain.
