The Influence of Reading Interest and Vocabulary Mastery Towards the Ability of Comprehending the English Report Texts (Survey on SMP Negeri at Kabupaten Regency)
tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui 1) Pengaruh minat baca terhadap kemampyan memahami teks report bahasa Inggris siswa SMPN di Kabupaten Indramyu. 2) Pengaruh penguasaan kosakata terhadap kemampuan memhami teks report bahasa Inggris siswa SMPN di Kabupaten Indramayu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survey dengan teknik analisis jalur. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Indramayu yang berjumlah 800 siswa. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 89 siswa. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan: 1) Tidak terdapat pengaruh langsung yang signifikan minat baca terhadap kemampuan memahami teks report bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri di Kabupaten indramayu. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai t hitung = 1,486 < t tabel = 1,980. 2) Terdapat pengaruh langsung yang signifikan penguasaan kosakata terhadap kemampuan memahami teks report bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Indramayu. Hal tersebut dapat dibuktikan oleh nilai t hitung = 5,320 > t tabel =1,980. 3) Terdapat pengaruh langsung yang signifikan minat baca terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Indramayi. Hal tersebut dapat dibuktikan oleh nilai t hitung = 3, 632 > t tabel =1,980. 4) Terdapat pengaruh tidak langsung yang tidak signifikan minat baca terhadap kemampuan memahami teks report bahasa Inggris melalui penguasaan kosakata siswa SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Indramayu. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan oleh nilai t hitung =0,183 > t tabel = 1,980.
The purpose of this study was to determine 1) The influence of reading intereset on the ability to understan the English language report text of SMPN students in Indramayu regency. 2) The Influence of vocabulary mastery on the abilitu to understand the English text reports of SMPN students in Indramayu Regency. 3) The influence of interest in reading and mastery of vocabulary on the ability to understand the English text reports of SMPN students in Indramayu Regency. The methode used in this study is a survey with path analysis techniques. The population in this study were eighth grade students in State Junior High Schools in Indramayu Regency, totaling 800 students. The sample used in this study amounted to 89 students. The results of the study concluded: 1) There was no significant direct influence of interest in reading on the ability to understand the English language report text of State Junior High School students in Indramayu Regency. This can be proven by the value of t count = 1.486 < t table = 1.980. 2) There is a significant direct influence on vocabulary mastery on the ability to understand the English language report text of state junior high school students in Indramayu Regency This can be proven by the value of t count = 5.320 > t table = 1.980. 3) There is a significant direct influence of interest in reading on vocabulary mastery of State Junior High School students in Indramayu Regency. This can be proved by the value of t = 3.632> t table 1.980. 4) There is an indirect influence that is not significant in reading interest in the ability to understand English report texts through the vocabulary mastery of State Junior High School students in Indramayu Regency. This is evidenced by the value of t count= 0.183 > t table= 1.980.
