Penerapan Sistem Modular dalam Rangka Peningkatan Keterampilan Menulis Suatu Studi Eksperimen SMUN 1` Karanganom Klaten

Writing is an important skill to enhance for high school students to develop oneself in order to continue education in college or university or to participate in social activites. Generally, high school graduates find difficulty to put their ideas in writing using correct Bahasa Indonesia, which is caused by how the education subjects are transferred to students. Students are accustomed to listen and note the subject passively and they are lack of opportunities to learn on their own. To cope with this problem, this study attempt to carry out an experiment of applying modular system in teaching written Bahasa Indonesia. Parallel problems which also covered are: (1) will the modular system teaching help students learn writing? (2) will modular system help students improve their writing skill?In order to answer problems, this research was conducted in SMUN (Government High School) 1 Karanganom in Klaten, in academic year 2000/2001. This experiment employed 39 students as respondents. This experiment research tries to teach Descriptive writing using modular system. Data collected analyzed with t-test.After being analyzed, several conclusions can be drawn in relation with the problems: (1) modular system teaching can help students learn to write, particularly students in SMUN 1 Karanganom, Klaten, (2) the application of modular system teaching improves students writing skill. These facts are evaluated based on descriptive comparison between means of pre-test (69.6) and post-test (73.12) and further t-test shows that reach 6.12, which is 2.02 bigger than t table value under 5% significance.Keywords: modular system teaching.
