The research is classroom action research, aims to improve the students' writing skill in Indonesian through contextual approach. The research was conducted in PGSD FKIP UNS for a semester started from July to December 2007. The effectiveness of each cycle is measured with the result of observation, and writing skill tests. The result of the observation is described, interpreted, and then they are taken into reflection to decide the remedial action for the next cycle. While the data of the result of writing skill test is analyzed by describing the result of each test until we reach the passing grade as indicated in the performance, those are (1) the minimum everage score of wrting skill for 75.00 (2) At least 85 % of students get 75.00 as the passing grade of the writing skill score.The action research which has been done for three times show that the everage result of students' wrting skill test is 61,6 in the beginning, with the classical passing grade is 0 % . The result of cycle I is 73.74 with the classical passing grade 21.43 %, cycle II is 75.81 with the classical passing grade 54.76% and cycle III is 77.81 with the classical passing grade 100 %. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that: 1) the application of Contextual Approach can improve the students' writing skill.
